Show and Tell

Have you officially become a slimeball? Trying to blame an attempted murder by a nutcase on former Gov. Palin? Have a nice, bitter, deranged life.

Someone sent me this email today. A grown man sent me this because I dare to post a link from gawker on my facebook. I called him after I saw the message. After I sent him an email calling him a mess and telling him not to talk to me if he couldn't be nice. (This is not the first time he's tea bagged my facebook)

This is what the world has become and it really scares me. Not in a bitter or deranged way, but in an actual sometimes I can't sleep at night way.

A congresswoman was shot today. A United States congresswoman and that has shaken me to my core. I am scared about what this country has become. It wasn't a freak event. She was a target, an intended target. She was shot at pointblank range.

I feel like we're always being shown polarizing hatred. It's not just run of the mill "the other guy is an idiot" stuff. It's the other guy is evil and must be destroyed. It's really scary. It scares me. Words have consequences. The rhetoric in this country has consequences.

I'm gonna get kinda hippy on you all and say, try not to be an a-hole. That should be your daily goal.

We need to realize that the rhetoric, and the firing people up and … for example, we’re on Sarah Palin’s ‘targeted’ list, but the thing is, the way she has it depicted, we’re in the crosshairs of a gun sight over our district. When people do that, they’ve gotta realize that there are consequences to that action."~~U.S. Representative Gabrielle Gifford

Jesus Christ.
Kasey, with all the noise Palin and pals have been making, it is no surprise this poor woman was shot, and then you see all these other innocent people shot too? Dang. I remember 15 years ago that idiot McVeigh in Ok City blowing up that building...complete with a PRE-SCHOOL. Nothing like blowing up a bunch of 3 year olds to make your point! Why is it, when you look at Jack and Bobby Kennedy, MLK, that progressive leaders get shot at and conservatives merely get mocked on comedy central?????

I think what we all need to do here is start buying tylenol with no prescription like anonymous said.

Okay, but in all seriousness. Someone doesn't have to be a muslim to be a terrorist.

This country needs to have a zero tolerance policy on hate speech. I don't care what side it's coming from. Everyone needs a lesson in civility and a kick in the pants.

I agree. In fact, the new thing, aside from this, that has been incessantly bothering me, is this new gun law in Iowa. People can take guns anywhere unless the business has a sign saying no weapons. They don't even have to be concealed? Shotguns are appropriate. I just have visions of how much easier it will be for kids to get a hold of guns because people are idiots and won't lock them up, or some deranged, or inebriated, moron will go into a bar and get in a fight and shoot someone. It just spells trouble.

It's been a decade since 9/11 and a lot of awful things have happened since then. We are not united as evidenced from that nasty, unsolicited email from a relative. I was just trying to say that our terrorists aren't always from foreign countries as fighting the crazies that fly planes into buildings implies.

Listen, I don't care for guns. Not at all. That's me. I am fine with other people loving them but they are not for me and I think this country needs to take a serious look at its gun laws.

Instead of getting more lax we need to buckle down on who can and can't get their hands on them. If you don't agree, you don't agree and that's your thing.

Stats show that people with handguns, bought for so-called family protection, if the weapons are used, it is usually a household accident or suicide. People have to keep in mind that innocent people are too often hurt with guns. We don't live in a horrible place like Iraq or Colombia or Somalia....so basically, why are people in this country all wandering around ready to shoot somebody?

Do you know what makes me cringe? The fact that I opened myself up here on my blog and let you know that I was scared and hurt by an email I received from a relative over politics and you've come in here to talk about your politics instead of just supporting me. My post isn't your gun law forum. I'm sorry for being so blunt, but it isnt.

If you had read my comments instead of just instantly reacting to Fran's you would have known.

Perhaps you can do a post about guns on your own blog. It's something you obviously feel strongly about.
Then you can answer anyone's concerns they may have over there, in your own comment thread.
