WWKD: Moldy Bread Edition

Dear Kasey,

I really want a sandwich. The problem? Moldy bread.

So here's my question: if the bread at the back of the loaf is a little moldy, but the bread at the front of the bag still looks ok, can I use it?
I'm usually VERY anti-gross. But I'm also very pro-PB&J, at the same time.
I'm very conflicted right now.
Please help.

I too am anti-gross, but I also know the allure of a PB+J. I totally understand your conflict. I would say just go to the front of the bag, but let's be honest here, all you're going to think about is that mold. Even if the bread tastes totally normal the mold will be on your mind and you just won't enjoy your sandwich as much as it deserves to be enjoyed.

Just wait and get a new loaf of bread. The wait will make your sandwich taste even better. I know I'm advising a very difficult task, but I believe in you. You can do it.

I've made a sandwich before, started eating it only to find some green fuzz on the crust.. and promptly threw what could have been a fantastic PB&H in the trash. It was really sad.

Hmmm.... I could eat the non-moldy bread... I mean... it's PB&J for cryin out loud! ;)
Besides - isn't the mold that grows on bread just penicillin? ;)

Jill is correct I am sure, about the penicillin part, but I heard on the radio, about this VERY topic: if you see mold growing on one end, YES, that sh!t is all over everything and you can't see it all, and god knows what other creepy crawlies....heave it out the door for bambi and her friends....

I have not heard from the person that sent the question in, but I'm going to guess that he/she will not eat the bread.

Well, readers, I couldn't get past the mold. And thank God too! I didn't even think about the invisible mold-to-be that was surely covering the rest of it. Bleh!
The offending loaf got shipped on down to dumpster town and instead I ate pretzels dipped in PB&J, which could be my new favorite snack.
Holy shit was it good!

I knew you wouldn't do it! Good for you!

And excellent snack improvising!
