My Parents Are Way Cooler Than Me

As I've gotten older I've come to realize that my parents are far cooler than I could ever hope to be.

This weekend they went and saw The Hangover opening night. Saturday night they stayed out until the wee hours of the morning. They could out party me anytime.

I should have seen this coming a long time ago. In middle school when my peers figured out who my Dad was I would have to listen to people that never talked to me say "Your Dad is, Bill? I love Bill!' "Your Dad is hilarious!" "What's with your Dad's hair? He's awesome!" Then they would encounter my Mom. "Oh my God I love your Mom! She's so nice!" "Your Mom is THE coolest"

Ahh yes, the coolest. BOY SHE HAD THESE PEOPLE FOOLED!

When you're a middle schooler your parents are the least cool people ever and people declaring their coolness to you is sort of frightening. Even more frightening was the thought of my parents talking to these people. *Oh God they are going to be so embarrassing! People are going to make fun of me even more! DON'T TALK TO PEOPLE, MOM!* Foolish 12 year old me. Obviously I was the embarrassing one.

I started seeing it near the end of high school by college I was a believer, MY PARENTS ARE COOL! God they were right.
And it's like they're getting more awesome.

All I really wanted to get across with this is, go see The Hangover. GREAT movie.
For all you fans of my parents out there, my Mom said she was laughing so hard she had to leave to go to the bathroom so she didn't wet her pants.
Enjoy.

I feel the same about my parents. I knew they were cool, but there were small intervals of embarrasing moments that I later learned are stupid and I should never have felt embarrased. It was mostly my being a stupid kid. Now that I'm an adult, they're even more fun because it's not "You're the kid, listen to me" it's "hey, daughter, what's up?" Very cool. :)

Whoa, I can see these are hipsters. Hey, are you the one with the saddle shoes on the left?

Yes, I was an awfully stupid kid! I was always certain they were doing something that was going to shame me for life. Things like...being nice to my classmates or something. HOW DARE THEY!

Yes, I'm the one in the saddle shoes with the psychotic/determined look on my face. Maybe I should update this post with a less demented looking pic of me as a child...

No way! That's an awesome picture. I love your Mom's dress... she's such a earthy hippy. :)

Look at all the loot you got for Chrismas. Is that a Raggity Ann, Strawberry Shortcake AND a PlayDoh kit?! You are so lucky.

She is a hippy. My Grandma probably made the dress for her.

I was lucky! That was quite a haul. Also, Dukes of Hazzard big wheel in the corner!
